About Me
My solo performance style is hard to define but having grown up watching old school musicals and learning various western styles of dance (tap, jazz, classical ballet & contemporary) from a young age, dance and drama has always been a part of my life. I enjoy the theatrical expression of Vaudeville and have more recently become infatuated with the art of Burlesque along with having a love of the literary genres and subcultures of Gothic, Neo-Victoriana and Steampunk.
So as a solo artiste, I now blend elements from these forms of artistic expression with stylings borrowed from the Art Deco/Nouveau artistic periods along with many other elements of inspiration to create my own unique fusion dance style.
I also love using a range of props to enhance the dramatic element of my dances. Some of my favourites are Sword, Veil, FanVeils and I also perform with a range of Fire props including Candles, Fans, Fingers and Poi.
I perform regularly both locally and insterstate. Some of the events I have performed at include WA Middle Eastern Dance Festival (Perth), Corinbank, National Fringe Festival, National Multicultural Festival, National Folk Festival, Floriade, Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival, The Tribal and Trance Festival (NSW), Under the Blue Moon Gothic Festival (Sydney), The Village Show (The Entrance, NSW), Kajira's Maui Intensive 2005 (Hawaii), Tribal Fest 6 (California, USA) and many private functions.
I have danced for over 25 years with the past 15+ being dedicated to Bellydance & have trained extensively both here & overseas. Dancers I have learnt from include Kajira Djoumahna ( I was certified by her in August 2005 to teach level 1 in the BSBD format & commenced training to teach level 2), Carolena Nericcio, Paulette Rees-Denis, Rachel Brice, Jill Parker, Heather Stants, Tempest, Devi Mamak, Melusina, Hale Sultan, Artemis Mourat and many others. I believe in taking any opportunity I can get to learn and further my dance experience and live by the motto of “the day I stop learning is the day I die”.
I currently teach both American Tribal Style (ATS based on BlackSheep BellyDance and Fat Chance Belly Dance formats) and my own unique choreographic style of Neo-Tribal Fusion (a "mash-up" of Tribal and Cabaret Bellydance, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop & a healthy dose of Vaudeville and Burlesque theatrics).
I have regular classes in Canberra and I also offer private tuition and teach workshops at other events upon request.
